Tilt Mazes

One of 14 great puzzles. Move the ball to the target — its harder than you think... Download now!

The goal in a tilt maze is the same as for any maze puzzle - reach the target. The only difficulty is that the ball moves in a straight line until it hits a wall. This seemingly insignificant change means that many things which aren't possible in normal mazes become possible. For example, what would be a straight path to the target in a normal maze is not necessarily possible in a tilt maze. It is also possible to become trapped, meaning that you cannot reach the target from your current position, and you need to restart the maze. These differences make tilt mazes far more interesting and challenging than regular maze puzzles.

The tilt maze is an example of a "logic maze" - a type of puzzle invented by Robert Abbott. The distinction between a logic maze and a regular maze is that a logic maze has one or more additional rules that make the puzzle more interesting. The first logic maze was published in 1962, but they've only really gained in popularity since the advent of mass computing, because a computer program can enforce the additional rules in a natural way that is transparent to the user.

The tilt mazes in TLS Brain Training are automatically generated each time you play, so you'll never run out of new challenges! In all the mazes, there is only one route from the start to the target. You might be able to get back on that route if you come off it - but then you might not, so be careful. Remember that you're doing this against the clock, and each restart costs you a time penalty...
